Robotics didn’t just change my career path, it changed my life. My name is Steven Shulgach, and just only a year ago in 2013, I was intensely involved in TechBrick’s FRC team, 3941. Being involved and engaged in the years of robotics, has done a great deal in my life and has ultimately brought my understanding and interests of what I learned in robotics to a whole new level. In past years of FIRST, I was introduced and pulled into the vortex of TechBrick, in their FTC team back in 2011, transitioning to FRC in the later year. The programs had monumentally changed my thought, interest and knowledge on many subjects, including electrical and mechanical engineering, management and leadership, and time based media. I am currently studying Graphic Design: Digital Arts at a community college, ultimately transferring to Towson University, to further my studies in the field of visual arts. As strange as it seems to have chosen a career path in a subject not nearly as closely related to robotics like math, science and engineering, it was a life changing discovery in my exploration that I could have only experienced in FIRST Robotics. It taught me to think outside the box, to be innovative and creative, to look at things differently, all while being efficient and steadfast. Before I entered the world of robotics, my career was set towards a career in computer science and mathematics. Overtime, new ideas and working around fun and creative people, enlightened me and supported my work. Although my interests changed and my career altered, my intents did not; to be creative and innovative in everything you do, and most importantly, enjoy doing it.
